Hello, everyone! It’s day 1 and currently I’m following my extensive reading plan by reading “The Vegetarian” by Han Kang in Korean. This is a new series in order to improve acquisition of new Korean words from context and reinforce the Korean words we already learnt.
(Love Korean books? Then check out these 20 Must-Read Korean books that will change your life!)
Here are words that I wanted to learn or I didn’t know from Chapter 1:
끌리지도 않았다: wasn’t attracted
단발머리: bobbed hair
각질: dead skin
튀어나온 광대뼈: prominent cheekbones
두려워하는: be afraid of
무채색: neutral colours
가냘프지도 않은: not feeble
걸음걸이: walk/gait
신선함: fresh
재치: wit
세련된: refined/polished
무난한 성격: bland personality
사로잡기: capture/captivate
박식한: well-informed
허둥대지 않아도 되었으며: didn’t have to be flustered (i.e. in a rush)
위축될: to be intimidated
까닭: reason
아랫배: lower stomach
How many words did you know? Have you tried extensive reading in a second language? What did you think of it? Did it help your language skills?
Let me know in the comment section below!
Peace!
